In Iraq, October Death Toll Hits 101 for U.S. Force

Jordan got a guitar!

MidOctober

Tomorrow’s Friday the 13th! I’m not superstitious, but this year I’ve decided not to press my luck. So there will be non ladder diving or black cat petting. And I’m staying away from mirrors and such. :P

Tuesday night my boss pissed and moaned to me… it sort of made me unhappy: it was a very managerial speech and he complained about my “performance” and that I don’t “give 100%”. I think he’s right… I give somewhere around 200%. I do more stuff for that place than anyone else, and somewhere around 25% of the work I do on a daily basis is cleaning up other people’s mistakes (and some of those people are the ones complaining about me) and a lot of that work is invisible… if you screw something up, I’ve got to fix it or otherwise it’s going to cause someone (half the time me) an issue later on… This means that other people aren’t “giving 100%” either. So yeah, screw you.

In other news: It snowed today! It was real pretty. It also slowed traffic down to a funeral procession crawl… but it was pretty.

In other news: The Kalamazoo Democratic Party called me tonight, and I signed up to do some work for them. Next Wednesday I’m canvassing-which is always fun… and I’m going to work at the polls on election day. That’ll be useful and fun.

And another thing

I forgot to mention that the greatest threat to my way of life is not from a terrorist bomb or a loose collection of individuals in the mideast called al-Qaeda but comes in the form of an agenda trying to be advanced by a large, powerful group of people known as the Republican Party.

Who Won?

The first Gubernatorial Debate was tonight; I caught the last thirty minutes or so… I think it’s funny that both candidates say they won. I would of course like to think that the Governor won, but I didn’t hear the whole thing. I’d like to see the video of it, as I just heard it on the radio. I’m of a mind that no one really wins these political debates, just the elections that follow.

I’m of course rooting for Governor Granholm if only on the merit that Michigan is beyond screwed up and DeVos would more than likely just screw it up more. And also because I will more than likely remain a Democrat forever.

DeVos is a businessman and it’s well known that he shipped Amway jobs out of Michigan and to China—so should we really have someone in charge who’s notorious for taking jobs away from Michigan, even though during this campaign he’s saying how he’ll be creating jobs? Probably not.

The reality of the situation is that Governors (and Presidents, for that matter) don’t really do much by way of creating jobs. Sure, they sign the laws that shape the economy, but the legislature decides those laws… anyhow, Michigan will probably keep going to shit no matter who’s governor, and I’d rather it be Granholm than DeVos. She’s got the experience of incumbency, the perspective towards ordinary citizens, and the willingness to fight for people like me. Maybe if I had millions of dollars handed down to me from my parents I’d lean more towards DeVos…

Anyhow, I’m too tired really to say what I really want to say, so I’ll just leave it at that. I’m from Grand Rapids, and I have little respect for neocons like DeVos; I think they are great for generating profitable businesses, but government doesn’t exist to create profit—it exists to serve the people who establish it.

If it’s not one thing, it’s another

September sucked.

I got shorted $100 from a paycheck, so to make sure I avoided a bounced check I got a payday loan–which made me swallow my pride, but was less than either paying rent late or return check fees… i was plagued by chronic headaches… I didn’t see Aaron at all… then I got sick… I’ve never been sick in September, but it seems like everyone has a cold; I’m not sure what it is–there must be some epidemiological evidence for the increased incidence of rotavirus/coronavirus in Portage, but it’s still weird… it’s usually November by the time I get my first cold. Anyhow, I spent my three day weekend mostly asleep, then all of this week sick… work this week sucked. I got yelled at unnecessarily and unprofessionally… BV and I worked through our colds while someone called in sick on Thursday only to show up for her shift at another store on Friday (IF I WOULD HAVE DONE THAT, I WOULD HAVE GOTTEN FIRED OR AT LEAST NOT SCHEDULED THE NEXT WEEK ::biiter::)… I missed two Casey Stratton concerts that I desperately wanted to see… I didn’t get to see Aaron at all… and well, I’m getting over this cold.

I start October with just enough money to buy some milk and pay rent. This week I worked 2 hours overtime, so with that money I’m going to see Aaron next weekend.

My lease is up in two months and I wonder… should I stay or should I go?
