Tonight’s the last night in my apartment. All of Joe’s things are gone and the last of my stuff is packed away. I was there for a few hours this afternoon but then I went back over to Adam’s because it was empty and lonely and depressing.
Then we went to Urban Mill downtown to get some WiFi and dinner, but their internet was down, so Katie and Duane, Terry, Eric, Adam and I all came back to the Lofts to use the free WiFi in the lobby. It’s a nice way to spend the last night in my apartment.
Tomorrow Brian Ian is going to help me move my bed over to Adam’s.
Yeah, I’m sad. I’ll miss my view.

This week is the fifth annual moving extravaganza! I moved most of my kitchen stuff today. The big things I plan to move tomorrow when I can borrow Adam’s Aztek.
(Yes Joe, he bought “one of those” after his accident)
Adam cancelled his Comcast internet and I’m moving my DSL over here, that won’t be until the 1st of August, so I’ll be without internet for a little bit.
I have some stuff I need to blog when I get it back. Right now I’m on some open network, sitting outside. It’s starting to rain.

Saw this H&R Block commercial; they’re using a Powerbook but they’ve covered up the apple logo with what looks like a waterbed patch.

All fixed! It was a lot easier than I thought; I didn’t have to take the entire iBook apart, just the display module. Out with the old, in with the new—only took about 15 minutes to do!

Remain calm, because this is fixable. That’s what I thought when my screen cracked. I just didn’t know how fixable it was.
For $77 I bought a replacement LCD on eBay.
Explainer: I know this says it’s a Dell LCD, but it’s made by Samsung. I took apart the display module of my iBook and took the part number off the back of my broken LCD, then searched eBay for it. Cuz I’m smart.
Now I’ve just go to wait for it to get here and then I’ll have to disassemble my iBook completely, keep track of all the screws, install the replacement screen and manage to reassemble it without screwing it up. Shouldn’t be too difficult.
I don’t have to buy a new iBook, I don’t have to pay $500 to get it repaired, and I can still go on vacation. And I have a new project now.

There’s an animated .gif for every occasion. This one fits for now.

As if I needed more stress in my life, I managed to break my LCD screen on my iBook.
I’d set the iBook down on the floor so I could make my bed. I’d also left my watch on the bedspread, so when I gave a tug to pull off the bedspread, my watch took to the air and by means of absolutely perfect god-hates-me-and-doesn’t-want-me-to-be-happy trajectory it impacted with the screen.
Luckily I have a flat panel I can plug the iBook into for now. Looks like I’ll have to call the Apple store tomorrow.
God.
Fucking.
Dammit.

So I’m reading Cory Doctorow’s Someone Comes to Town, Someone Leaves Town. Today while at work I printed out a few pages while we were slow and read the most magnificent passage I’ve read in a novel in a long, long time.
Read it here. Then buy it.
One of the girls I was working with wanted to get a temporary tattoo out of the sticker machine up front, as she was going to Berlin Raceway and wanted to look appropriately white-trashy. I offered to pay for her “ink” and got one for myself, too.
By strange coincidence, the passage I read from Someone was describing the secret wings a a female character has, and the temporary tattoo I got was of a girl angel, e.g. a chic with wings.
The funniest part was when someone asked me “Where’d you get that ink?” And I said “Out of the sticker machine by the exit.”

If I lived with someone
And I owed them money for rent or utilities or a uhaul truck
even if it was only say ten or twenty dollars
I would make sure they came home to a clean apartment
and if that person asked me to clean up
i wouldn't email them back and ask "why?" when they emailed me
and said to clean up
especially if my most recent rent check (for $30 less than my share of
the rent) bounced all the way to the bank
i would do whatever that person wanted, including cleaning up after them
because I should never, ever, have to see a single one of the dishes I bought
dirtied by that person
I should never, ever, have to see cups and glasses and plates left on
my coffee table
if you can't pay your fucking bills
that's the way the world works, joe.
you're lucky I didn't kick you out
so at the end of our lease
I wish you the best and finding a new place to live
and hope whoever else you sucker in to letting live with you
won't put up with as much shit as i've had to put up with
living
with you.

Along with the lack of sleep, it seems my sinus problem isn’t just allergies. I feel like I’ve got the flu. It’s probably some kind of sinus infection. I took today off to sleep and feel better.
Don’t feel much better. Green tea time.
I put some Google ads up. Click away! Make me some money!

It’s not just a christopher nolan movie. I need to buy new pillows. I cranked the AC down to 68. I think it was that Red Bull I had around Williamston when my eyelids started to feel heavy. Or the sudafed I took when I got home cuz it feels like my sinuses are going to explode. Or both. Or the fact that “the future” has slid back into it’s undetermined slot. It’s familiar and comfortable in that place, it seems. Pam wants a to-do list, so here’s one. (no it’s not in any fucking order, that’s what the <ul> tag is for)
- Buy new pillows.
- Buy some new underwear.
- Continue to work out my emotional issues with Adam.
- Probably should realize and cope with my loneliness issues along with that.
- I probably need to lay off the sauce for awhile.
- Take the Level 4 tech test.
- Get raise.
- Find decent, reasonably-priced place to live somewhere closer to my new workplace.
- A roommate who wants to live between GR and Holland would help, too.
- The end of all this is working in the highest possible position at my job for at least a year, then scoring a better-paying job and getting the hell out of Michigan. ‘Cos really, Pam, that’s the goal. But I know better than to roll into a new town with only $100 in my pocket. Wing and a prayer only goes so far.
Hey, that 43things looks interesting. I’ll have to check it out later. (Maybe I should add “procrastinate less” to the list…)

Ok I’m blogging from McDonald’s. I was hungry + saw that there was McDonald’s and thought to myself “my gosh, they have WiFi!” so I’ve bought a $2 salad and $3 pass for WiFi. They shouldn’t charge if I buy something! Bastards!
Time to head back to GR. Thanks, Ann Arbor, I had a great time!

Damon Wallace has posted some absolutely amazing illustrations for Someone Comes to Town, Someone Leaves Town. Check them out right here.
I suspect he might be doing these as he reads the book; I only hope we’re keeping the same pace so he doesn’t spoil anything!
Damon also has some really great tunes on his Myspace Music page.

So I met Cory Doctorow on Thursday. He read a great piece he’d been working on while he’s instructing at Clarion. Cory’s a great speaker, a brilliant writer, and easy on the eyes. It was very nice to meet him. Unfortunately I’d forgotten my digital camera, so I had to get a single-use at Meijer before the event, now I’ve got 20 some-odd exposures to use up before I get it developed. I’ll have Terry develop them for me, since he’s absolutelyfuckinggorgeous and it drives me crazy to look at him. Especially since he’s gotten his hair cut.
Anyhow, I started Someone this weekend and I’m enjoying it more than any book I’ve read lately (except for Down & Out). Cory’s got some interesting ideas he brings to fruition in the book. I’ll be able to say more when I’m more that 50 pages into it, which I have a feeling will be rather quick, since I can’t seem to be able to put it down. The site for the book is here and you can also download a free Creative Commons-licensed version here. You can also get a treeware version here.
As I’m in Ann Arbor and Brad doesn’t have internet access, I’m thankful for free WiFi.

I’m in Ann Arbor this weekend, checking out Brad’s new apartment. It’s pretty nice, from the balcony to the mint green carpet. We made meatloaf for dinner. It was delicious!

Adam got into a car accident yesterday. He totaled his car. He called me while I was at work in Kalamazoo and didn’t say if he was okay or not, I could just tell from the sound of his voice that he needed me to be there. So I rushed out of work early and on my way up I did find out that he was alright. From the looks of the car the airbag saved his life. He’s a very lucky kid.
He bought a new car today, so he’s excited about that!
